Information for Public Housing Tenants
Territory Housing does not have any of the most dangerous
types of asbestos in its homes (fibre mainly found in lagging
around pipes) but there may be other types of asbestos in
your home. For example, asbestos cement sheeting on walls,
eaves or roofs.
If asbestos containing material in your home is undisturbed
and in good condition it does not pose a risk to health.
If you suspect your home has damaged asbestos, you should
call your Territory Housing Office. Territory Housing will
inspect your home as soon as possible. If there is any danger
to your health the asbestos will be treated by a licensed
asbestos removalist, organised through Territory Housing.
Any tenant intending to carry out home maintenance (such
as drilling a hole in the wall) is advised to follow the Information for DIY Renovators located on this website.
