Information for the DIY / renovator

Before home renovating you should be aware that building products such as wall sheeting, ceiling tiles and floor tiles could contain asbestos. The presence of asbestos must always be ascertained before any renovations are carried out. You can't tell its asbestos just by looking at it!

The most accurate way to find out if your home contains asbestos is for experienced people to inspect and test it. Contact a licensed asbestos removalist.

Even minor work around the home, such as drilling a hole to hang a picture or replacing a sink, can potentially expose you to asbestos fibres.

In any situation where there is more than the legally allowed 10 square metres of asbestos or where maintenance involves one metre of friable asbestos a licensed asbestos removalist must be employed.
